Stone Dragon

a moving dragon in stone.

This is an animation study I did using Photoshop and the animated GIF format. The dragon is a stylized stick figure, since I wanted to focus on overall movement; after drawing the frames in black and white, I applied the stone texture and emboss effect to each one. Although this is my first attempt at any kind of animation, I was able to use my background knowledge of animation techniques, such as drawing the key frames first and then filling in the frames in between.

Transformer Diagram

I created this diagram for a presentation on electrical engineering which my father was giving. This is one of my first efforts in Photoshop and as such, I did a lot of things differently than I would do them now, with more familiarity with the software tools. This is actually the first in a series of images which break down the function of electrical transformers in various configurations. It shows the transformer’s wire coils, metal core, power input (the dam) and output (the toaster). The dam is actually from a vacation picture I had lying around, and I photographed my toaster specifically for this project.

Absol (Digital Painting)

Absol digital painting

This image of an Absol (a variety of Pokemon) was an exercise in digital cel shading. It began as a pencil drawing which I scanned and then traced and colored digitally. I was able to use images from official Pokemon media as sources for the colour palette. However, I’ve made this one quite a bit shaggier than the canonical depiction.

Absol is one of my favorite Pokemon, both in appearance and concept. I remember watching the Pokemon TV show, way back when the first season was broadcast (I even had a Pikachu doll). I still keep up with the franchise, as one of my earliest forays into Japanese media.
